Sermon Sept 20
Mark 4:35-41
In Mark 4:35-41, Jesus summons the disciples to the other side, and on the way they face a horrific storm. The disciples, in a panic, awaken Jesus, expressing both their fears and their doubts. Jesus rebukes the storm, as well as their lack of faith. What is God exhorting us to do?
1-Be ready when Jesus calls us to the other side. He is always summoning us into the unknown
2-Be ready for the storms. Journeying with Jesus is not storm-free. We face an enemy determined to keep us from his mission
3-Be ready when fear and doubt assail us, for they will. We will wonder if God is asleep. We will fear we are going down. We will doubt he can get us through the night
4-Be ready when God reveals his might and his love, for he always does. He is the Lord of creation. He is positively drawn to us—even when we are most sure he doesn’t want to be.
Either fear will chase out our faith—or faith will chase out our fears. What will it be?
