Trinity International Church is a healthy, growing church. None of this would be possible without the dozens of men and women who serve throughout our church. On Sunday we will host our third Town Hall Meeting and I am excited for you to have time with our Elders. At Trinity we are organized as an Elder-led, Congregationalist church. What does this mean practically? It means that authority in our Church lies in the membership; the Congregation. This authority is exercised by voting for things like budget, leadership, constitution and church discipline as needed. The Congregation votes for the Senior Pastor, for the Elders and the Deacons. These people are then entrusted with the authority of the Congregation to act on their behalf in agreement with the Word of God and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Elders at Trinity Church serve a three-year term that can be renewed for a second three-year term after which they must cycle off of the board (they can be nominated and voted back on to the board after a year or more break). Elders are men who have demonstrated character consistent with the Biblical qualification of an elder as outlined in Scripture. They serve the Church by offering it protection, nurture, guidance and vision. These are servant-hearted leaders who lead by example. Currently, Trinity has six Elders who each oversee three to four ministries. These ministries are managed and led on a day-to-day basis by Deacons. Deacons are men and women who have demonstrated character consistent with the Biblical standard. They are people who have a giftedness and calling to lead and organize the various ministries of Trinity Church. They are elected by the congregation and serve a one-year term which can be renewed annually by the recommendation of the Elders and affirmation of the Congregation.
At our Town Hall Meeting directly after the service this Sunday all members and non-members alike are encouraged to attend. Lunch will be served. During this time our Pastor Emeritus, Dr. John Johnson, will be presenting his wisdom for our church with a personal address. Following this, there will be a panel with the Elders who will answer questions from those present. This is an open discussion designed to give our congregation an opportunity to hear the hearts of its leaders as they lead with transparency and integrity. Trinity Church is Together, On Mission.
