Sermon notes

Sermon Oct 11 Mark 6:1-6 Jesus goes home. He does ordinary things extraordinarily well. “AND THEY TOOK OFFENSE AT HIM.” Why did they take offense? Sometimes what you think you know gets in the way of the truth. Prejudice. Ignorance is a dangerous thing! If you make a decision based on your prejudices you will

Sermon Oct 4 Mark 5:21-43 The same God who is more “mega” than science and nature; than demons and evil… cares about the hairs on your head… the lilies in the field. If you are going to “know” Jesus you need to know that He is intimately interested in everything about YOU. It’s easy to

Sermon Sept 27 Mark 5:1-20 You fear things you don’t UNDERSTAND; things you cannot CONTROL. YOU WANT MORE KNOWLEDGE AND MORE POWER. Fear is a driver. It causes us to take action. The Gospel of Mark takes us on a journey in the first four chapters: Jesus announces His Kingdom. He gathers His disciples. He

Sermon Sept 20 Mark 4:35-41 In Mark 4:35-41, Jesus summons the disciples to the other side, and on the way they face a horrific storm. The disciples, in a panic, awaken Jesus, expressing both their fears and their doubts. Jesus rebukes the storm, as well as their lack of faith. What is God exhorting us

Sermon Sept 13 Mark 4:21-34 What is hidden in your life? Why do we hide things? From a young age we learn that we can control the narrative and manipulate others into seeing things our way. We find that we can commit to the craft of deception and we learn how to hide the things

Sermon August 30 Mark 3:20-35 What does following Jesus cost you? It might cost you a missed meal. It might cost you much more but the cost is worth the loss because of the outcome. Sacrifice for the Kingdom of God produces Kingdom fruit. This passage tells us that Jesus’ own family had grown tired

Sermon August 23 Mark 3:7-19 In Mark 3:7–19, we see Jesus at a decisive point in His ministry. Large crowds are drawn to Him from many regions because they have heard what He is doing: healing the sick, setting people free, and showing compassion to those in need. These miracles are not simply displays of

Sermon August 16 Mark 2:23 – 3:6 The sermon opens by tracing Jesus’s confrontations with the Pharisees in Mark 2:23–3:6—his disciples plucking grain and his healing of the man with the withered hand—to establish a foundational truth: Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath, and the day was made for humanity’s benefit, not as a burden

Sermon August 9 Mark 2:13-22 We live in a society that does not know the true nature of God and the gospel, who Christ is, what happened on the cross, and what heaven and hell are. To win these people we need to be able to teach and explain. And we need to show love
