BELONGING

Becoming a member

Church is more than a Sunday service. Membership is how you put down roots in the Trinity family, and the membership class is the best place to start.

Why membership?

Membership gives everyone who attends and is involved in the life of Trinity the opportunity to express their commitment to this local body of believers. We are an autonomous church, affiliated with the International Baptist Convention, so no group outside the church decides what we can or cannot do. Membership lets you participate fully: members have the final say in appointing leaders (pastors, elders and deacons) and give final approval to the budget and major policy decisions.

Who can be a member?

We want the members of the church to be believers in Jesus Christ, so to become a member you affirm your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We also ask members to agree with the mission, vision and values of the church, to respect and honour its leaders, and to support the church with their prayers, presence, gifts and service.

How do I become a member?

Anyone attending Trinity may ask to become a member by contacting the church office, one of the elders or a pastor. The pastor and elders will explain the conditions and responsibilities of membership. Once you have fulfilled these, you will be presented to the church by the pastor or an elder at a regular Sunday service.

Common questions

Do I have to be a member to attend?

Not at all. Everyone is welcome at our Sunday services and groups, whether you are visiting once or have been coming for years. Membership is a next step, never a requirement to belong.

Who is the class for?

Anyone thinking about making Trinity their church home, or who wants to understand what we believe and how the church is run. Attending is not a commitment to join.

What does the class cover?

Who we are as an international church, how the church is led (pastor, elders and deacons), the church constitution, what we believe, and a chance to share your own faith story.

What is expected of members?

Supporting the church with your prayers, presence, gifts and service, and respecting and honouring its leaders. Members also vote on leaders, the budget and major decisions.

How are elders and deacons chosen?

Members put forward elder candidates. The Elder Board examines them, and the members vote them in. The elders put forward deacons for specific areas, and the members confirm them by vote at a members' meeting.

How do I sign up?

Contact the church office and we will reserve you a place at the next membership class.
