Alpha
Explore life, faith & meaning
A meal, a conversation and space for your questions. Alpha is an opportunity to explore the Christian faith in an open, friendly environment, with no pressure to have the answers.
Bring your curiosity.
Come as you are.
Is there more to life? What does faith have to do with my everyday life? Where can I ask the questions I have never felt comfortable asking? Alpha offers space to explore these things together.
Over eleven weeks, you get to know a small group, hear different perspectives and discover the foundations of Christianity. You do not need a church background or any knowledge of the Bible. Doubts, different opinions and honest questions are all welcome.
How an Alpha evening flows
Each Monday evening follows the same relaxed rhythm: eat together, explore a question, then talk it through in a small group.
- 01
Food
Every session starts with a meal, a great way to connect and get to know everyone there.
- 02
A Talk
A short talk, usually by video, exploring the basics of the Christian faith and designed to inspire conversation.
- 03
Conversation
A discussion where you can share your thoughts on the session’s topic. Say anything you like, or nothing at all.
The Alpha journey
Big questions, explored together
The course builds from the basics of Christian faith towards what it means to live it out. These are the key questions explored across Alpha; Trinity's session order and special gathering dates are confirmed by the team.
Part 1
Life, Jesus and faith
Begin with the big questions of life, then explore who Jesus is, why he died and what it means to have faith.
- Is there more to life than this?
- Who is Jesus?
- Why did Jesus die?
- How can I have faith?
Part 2
A relationship with God
Discover how Christians connect with God through prayer and the Bible, and how faith can shape everyday decisions.
- Why and how do I pray?
- Why and how should I read the Bible?
- How does God guide us?
Part 3
The Holy Spirit
Alpha includes a dedicated time to explore the Holy Spirit and what it means to experience God's love. Ask the office about the format and dates at Trinity.
- Who is the Holy Spirit?
- What does the Holy Spirit do?
- How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?
- How can I make the most of the rest of my life?
Part 4
Faith in everyday life
Consider the challenges of living out faith, sharing it with others and finding your place in a church community.
- How can I resist evil?
- Why and how should I tell others?
- Does God heal today?
- What about the church?
Before you come
- Do I need to be a Christian?
- No. Alpha is for anyone who is curious about life and faith, whether you are exploring Christianity for the first time, returning to it or simply asking questions.
- Will I be expected to speak or pray?
- You can share as much or as little as you like. There is no pressure to speak, pray or agree with anyone. Listening is welcome too.
- Can I try the first evening?
- Yes. Come to the launch evening, meet the group and see what Alpha is like before deciding whether to join the whole course.
- What if I have dietary requirements or miss a session?
- Contact the church office about dietary requirements, accessibility or a session you cannot attend. They can help you plan your visit and keep you informed.
