Alpha Courses - 2027
Have you ever stumbled onto something amazing? Several years back a friend of mine told me about a random movie playing at one of the “Indie” theaters in town. The name of the movie was, “The Biggest Little Farm.” It was about a newlywed couple who lived in an upstairs apartment in a crowded city. Something deep inside compelled them to plant a garden on the balcony where they began to grow vegetables. It was so life-giving that they eventually ran out of room to plant and decided, against the advice of their friends and family, to buy a farm outside of town. They bought a former orchard that had long-since been abandoned and looked more like the face of the moon than the beginning of something beautiful. There was another twist: they decided to do an all-natural farm with no pesticides; only nature doing what nature does. They documented it and made it into a film. This movie was the one my friend was raving about. I’m not one to quickly get on board with recommendations like this, but for some reason I took my family down to the theater the next week. My friend was that excited. It moved me. It turns out, this young couple stumbled onto something so amazing it became the best movie I’d seen in years. When I left that night I was happier, more encouraged and ready to tell everyone to go see the movie. Same with my wife and kids. It was a wonderful accidental joy.
I feel a similar joy because of the Alpha Group at Trinity Church. Every Monday they host dinner and discussion where life’s greatest questions find answers. This is a safe place to explore, “What gives life meaning and purpose?” “Who is Jesus?” “What does forgiveness mean to you?” “What makes it difficult to believe in God?” “Does God answer prayers?” “How do we know the Bible is true?” Because Alpha Course is a fantastic addition to our church this year, Mathilda and her team have already planned two more Alpha Courses for 2027. Here’s my challenge to you: Will you consider joining the team? Maybe you could cook a meal, help with set-up or clean-up, volunteer to help with discussions or best yet, bring a friend who needs to feel the love of God and find answers to their questions. Alpha has been a wonderful, though not accidental, joy.
“Trinity International Church is a safe, welcoming, community of Christ-followers who uphold a high view of Scripture, celebrate unity in diversity and participate fully in the abiding Christian life as described in the Bible. We are united by the principle that in the essentials there should be unity, in all else there should be charity.”
