Sermon October 26th – 1 Corinthians 1:10-17
Churches split. Marriages end in divorce. Friendships fracture. Division is as old as time. Satan’s first act of division was to divide 1/3 of the angels in heaven. Next, he divided Adam and Eve from God. The sin nature always divides. But this is NOT THE HEART OF GOD. God hates divorce. God hates divisiveness in the Church. That is why we read in 1 Corinthians 1:10, “ I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.” What does this look like in the Church? “In the essentials unity, in all else charity.” The battle for unity is fought in the heart of each person who walks through the door. Are you a Peace-Maker or do you divide? Unity is the heart of God for His People.
Discussion Questions
1. Are you a Peace-Maker? Do you heal and reconcile broken bonds or do you leave a trail of brokenness, unforgiveness and judgment?
2. The sin of comparison causes us to envy and gossip. It causes us to be proud and it causes us to feel shame. How can you choose to celebrate and elevate others instead of taking them down a notch?
