Sermon November 2nd – 1 Corinthians 1:18-31
God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise. This is difficult for us to understand. It is impossible for those who are perishing to comprehend. More is more and better is better, right? Wrong. God chose by design to turn the “wisdom” of this world on its head. The way to life is death. The way to winning is losing. Everyone has questions. Why am I here? What happens when I die? What is true? How do I find love? If you are looking for answers the world is filled with books that deliver the best advice from philosophy, religion, science and experience. But what do these produce? For thousands of years the answers we crave seem to illude us… and yet… the Bible answers every one of these questions. It gives meaning, perspective and closure to the greatest questions of human existence. All truth is God’s truth. As a Bible believing Christian you never need to check your brain at the door. PEOPLE DON’T REJECT CHRISTIANITY BECAUSE ITS UNREASONABLE. THEY REJECT IT BECAUSE ITS UNCOMFORTABLE. God wants us to ENJOY HIM. He does NOT want us to try to BE HIM. OUR DESIRE TO BE GOD KEEPS US FROM KNOWING GOD. This is truth.

1. In what ways does the culture you know express that science disproves Christianity? Do you believe that the Bible or the scientific community have a stronger claim to truth? How would you defend this assertion? How would the Apostle Paul?
2. How does “our desire to be God keep us from knowing God?” In what ways have you seen people construct ideas that become barriers to a right relationship with a loving God? What would need to happen for those barriers to be removed?
