New Year’s Resolutions are not everyone’s habit, but this time of year they often come to mind. Whether you have a list of things you will improve in the coming year or not, we all have areas that could use some attention. The word, “RESOLVE,” is different than making a decision. It carries the idea that the decision has already been made and there is no doubt it will happen. Some of us are better at resolve than others but successfully changing old habits requires resolution. The good news is that you already have proven that you can stick to a plan even when you don’t feel like it. Do you brush your teeth every morning? Do you get up earlier than you’d like so you can get to work? Do you make time to do the laundry? These are all examples of things that are not convenient or pleasurable but yet they are normal. This is only possible because you are a person of RESOLVE. This means you don’t decide based on the moment or on feelings but rather you have made up your mind ahead of time and you will follow-through because you fully believe in the cause. At Trinity Church we have a high view of Scripture. We believe that when we align with God’s will we will produce God’s peace; Shalom. When we apply the truth of Scripture to our daily life we create spaces and places where people thrive, where goodness grows and God receives our worship. The problem is that we often don’t want to do things God’s way. We want to follow our own passions and indulge our own desires. In the face of this the Bible continuously urges us not to fall into this trap. Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.” I would like to challenge you this year to make Bible reading a daily habit. Make Sunday church a weekly priority. Allow God to speak into your life through His Word and then be a person of RESOLVE. As the Book of James says so well, “Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves, do what it says.” James 1:22. May you spend 2026 in a passionate pursuit of God’s will and may we, as a church, see great victory day-by-day as we RESOLVE to grow in knowledge and obedience, together, for His Glory.
