Good morning Trinity-
One of my aims in returning to Trinity has been to help with the process of looking for a Lead Pastor. I am grateful the church affirmed the seven nominees for the Pastoral Search Committee this past Sunday. The PSC has already had its first meeting, and there’s every reason to be confident in these seven members. They take this responsibility with great seriousness. They love the church and are deeply committed to serving God in discerning his will.
It was timely to be in John 2 this past Sunday. It serves as a reference point, for we too must, like Mary, get in line with God, his timing and his purpose. Declare the need, yield to his will, be tenacious in praying, and be ready when the Spirit of God moves in our midst.
As some of you know, I am working on my fourth book while over here: Pastors the Church Longs For. For those interested, here are the 12 markers—
1- The Church Longs for Pastors Who Embrace Their Calling
2- The Church Longs for Pastors Who Know Who They Are
3-The Church Longs for Pastors Who Have Found Their Voice
4-The Church Longs for Pastors Who Lead Collaboratively
5-The Church Longs for Pastors Who Bring Change
6-The Church Longs for Pastors Who Admonish with Grace
7-The Church Longs for Pastors Who are Committed to Cultural Relevance
8-The Church Longs for Pastors Who Live in Reality
9-The Church Longs for Pastors Who Keep Pressing Forward
10-The Church Longs for Pastors Who Have Walked Faithfully Through Dark Nights
11-The Church Longs for Pastors Who Know When it’s Time to Let Go
12-The Church Longs for Pastors Who Reposition Rather than Retire
Tonight, in our Thursday “How to” series, we will talk about How to Find the Right Pastor. I will focus on the second marker—Pastors Who Know Who They Are. I will share a bit of my journey of lostness, for I spent several years not really knowing who a pastor is—even though I was one! I hope you will join us.
