Sermon Oct 25
Mark 6:30-44
First, I show you. Then, I watch you. Then, you do it on your own. Finally, you teach someone else. The ultimate goal of mentoring isn’t just to develop competence—it’s to develop someone who can develop others. That’s when knowledge becomes a legacy. Delegated Authority. Jesus has authority over the heavenly realm and the earthly realm; both supernatural and natural. The disciples see a practical problem: it’s late, the place is remote, and the people need food. Their solution is to send everyone away. But Jesus says, “You give them something to eat.” The disciples see what they lack. Jesus challenges them to look at what He can do. Do you ever find yourself telling Jesus what to do, rather than asking what He wants you to do? GOD’S MATH IS NOT LIKE YOUR MATH. HE DOES KINGDOM OF GOD MATH. YOU DO KINGDOM OF THIS WORLD MATH. Maybe they forgot to add the variable…
Five loaves + two fish + Jesus = Feast for thousands.
YOUR WORLD VIEW IS SHOWN IN YOUR MATH. SCARCITY? ABUNDANCE? Not enough love, money, time… OR More than enough with overflow. You don’t have to be fully mature to be useful to Jesus, but you must remain willing to grow.
Don’t assume that being used by God means you have nothing left to learn. And don’t assume that because you still have growing to do, God can’t use you.
Jesus’ method is not, “Learn everything first, and then serve.” It’s, “Learn from Me, serve under My authority, and grow through the experience.”
