Do you aspire to be like Christ? It’s both good and noble to aspire to be more like our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, but it’s far from enough. Aspirations are like dreams; you can imagine them, describe them and even long for them, but they are not reality. Many Christians have good aspirations but few have achieved a level of maturity in keeping with the promise of Scripture. As we discovered last Sunday, Spiritual Maturity is not a Mystery, it is a Process. In order for your life to change; for you to get rid of the sin that entangles, you will need to take your faith more seriously than mere aspirations can offer. What you need is Resolve. Resolve is different from an aspiration because aspirations are things you dream about and hope for, while things you have resolved to do are almost the same as done. If you aspire to be at work on time but you want to hit the snooze button, you will find that your aspiration to be on time will be overridden by your desire for comfort and you will be late to work again. However, if you resolve to be at work on time you will not touch the snooze button because you have made up your mind that being on time is more important than your momentary comfort. You will get out of bed and get moving. The good news is you already know how this works. You have learned how to use resolve to get results. Most of us don’t like brushing our teeth, but we do it every day like clockwork. Why are we able to override our impulse to skip brushing? Because we don’t like the consequences and have resolved to make time for what is important to us. It’s time to stop aspiring to be a more mature Christian and resolve that you will make the changes you need to make. Here’s a short list of things you should resolve to do: 1) Be in Church every Sunday on time. 2) Read your bible and pray every day. 3) Join a ministry team and serve others. 4) Join with other Christians for encouragement and accountability. 5) Share what God has developed in you with someone else.
